Headlight Restoration in Freiburg
Yellowed, hazy headlights cut light output by half and can cause an MOT failure. We polish and seal your headlights – crystal-clear light for a fraction of the replacement cost.
The plastic lenses of modern headlights oxidise over time through UV radiation and weathering. What begins as a slight haze develops into a yellow-brown cloudiness that reduces light transmission by up to 50 %. That means less light on the road, a shorter visible range and an increased accident risk at dusk.
At AUTOGLAS Profiservice in Freiburg we remove the oxidised layer completely with a multi-stage sanding and polishing process. The restored lens surface is then coated with a UV-resistant protective sealant that permanently prevents re-oxidation.
The results are impressive: the headlights look like new, light output is back to manufacturer level and your vehicle passes the MOT without issues. The cost is a fraction of the price of new original headlights, which can easily run to several hundred euros each.

What does our headlight restoration include?
Multi-stage polish & oxidation removal
We sand away the oxidised and yellowed layer using graduated abrasive grades and then polish the surface to a high gloss. The result: crystal-clear lenses without any haze.
UV protective sealant
After polishing we apply a professional UV-resistant protective coat. This prevents re-oxidation and maintains headlight clarity long-term – unlike unsealed polishes that haze again after a few months.
Light output check
On request we check the light output and beam angle after restoration and document the improvement – giving you confidence ahead of your next MOT.
Your benefits from headlight restoration
Up to 50 % more light
Clear lenses radiate at manufacturer level again – significantly greater range in the dark and better visibility to other road users.
MOT problem solved
Severely clouded headlights lead to a defect notice at the MOT. Restored headlights pass the inspection without issues.
Cheaper than replacement
New original headlights can cost €300–800 or more each. Restoration costs a fraction of that and delivers comparable results.
Long-lasting protection
Our UV sealant lasts several years – no re-hazing after a few months like with unsealed polishes.

Frequently asked questions
Can any yellowed headlight be restored?
In most cases yes. Surface yellowing and oxidation can be removed completely. Very deep scratches or cracks in the plastic may limit the result – we inspect for free and advise you honestly.
How long does the restoration last?
With our UV sealant the headlights stay clear for several years. Without sealing, oxidation would begin again within a few months. We always recommend the sealed restoration.
Is it better to restore or buy new headlights?
In most cases restoration is the better choice: far cheaper, equal or similar result, no effort for removal and refitting. Replacement is only necessary when there is structural damage (cracks, deformed lenses).
Do I need to book an appointment?
Yes please – book in advance so we can prepare time and materials. Restoring a pair of headlights takes 1–2 hours depending on condition.
Can headlights be restored quickly before an MOT?
Yes. If your MOT is coming up soon and your headlights are hazy, come in – we'll try to find a quick slot for you.
